NCLEX Predictor

The Lumen NCLEX Predictor.

An adaptive sitting of 85 to 150 questions from a reserved pool you have never practiced on. It stops the way the NCLEX stops, and shows where your performance sits against the passing standard, by how much, and in which content areas. The Predictor estimates your readiness based on your performance on Lumen questions. It is a practice tool, not a prediction of your actual NCLEX result.

How a sitting runs

Length
85 to 150 questions, adaptive
Time limit
5 hours, breaks on the clock
Case studies
3 unfolding cases of 6 steps, 18 questions, inside the first 85
Unscored items
15 trial questions inside the first 85, as on the NCLEX
Navigation
One question at a time, no going back
Secure mode
Full screen where the browser allows it; leaving the sitting is recorded

How the next question is chosen: the engine re-estimates your ability after every answer. It picks the content area furthest below its share of the test plan, then a question whose difficulty is closest to your current estimate, taking one of the 6 closest at random so no two sittings run the same way.

When it stops

  1. 1The confidence rule. From question 85 on, the sitting ends as soon as the engine is 95% confident your ability is above or below the passing standard.
  2. 2The maximum-length rule. If it reaches 150 questions, it ends and your final ability estimate is compared with the standard directly.
  3. 3The clock rule. If the 5 hours run out with 85 or more answered, the result comes from your final estimate. Under 85, the result is below the standard.
  4. 4Ending it yourself. You can end a sitting early. The result is taken from the questions you completed.

What unlimited means

On the 90 and 180 day plans there is no limit per day and no limit per plan. You can have one sitting open at a time, and it resumes where you left it. No question is shown to you twice across sittings, so the practical ceiling is the reserved pool: today 3,339 NCLEX-RN and 3,725 NCLEX-PN questions, none of them used in practice, on the free pages or in the readiness exam.

Questions

Is the result a promise that I will pass?

No. It is an estimate from your own answers under exam conditions. No practice exam can promise an NCLEX result, and the NCLEX itself is pass or fail.

Will I see questions I have already practiced?

No. The Predictor draws from a sealed pool that is never used in practice, the free pages or the readiness exam, and it never shows you a question it has shown you in an earlier sitting.

Is "unlimited" really unlimited?

On the 90 and 180 day plans there is no cap per day or per plan. You can have one sitting open at a time. Because no question repeats for you, the practical limit is the size of the reserved pool.
